Miss Amanda – Social Worker

I am one of the social workers at Oak Hill School. I provide individual counseling and group counseling for students. I primarily work with the younger children in the school (K-5th), but my ability to provide counseling is not limited to that academic range. Within counseling, I provide your child an opportunity to explore their emotions, triggers, and develop new and appropriate coping skills.

Zones of Regulation

This is a school wide social-emotional curriculum that teaches children how to identify their emotions, triggers, and practice new coping skills. This curriculum is beneficial to all students regardless of their mental health diagnosis. This is taught once a week as a group in each classroom. If you would like more information about this curriculum and how to adapt the strategies and teachings used to support you child at home, please feel free to email me.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Throughout the school and in counseling, we utilize a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach. This approach focused on the cognition’s/thoughts a child has, which includes their perception of a situation, and how it is related to their behaviors. Once the thoughts are changed, the behaviors often follow.

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention – for Schools

TCI-S,  is a crisis prevention and intervention program created by Cornell University designed to teach staff how to help at-risk children learn constructive ways to handle crisis. Myself and another staff member are certified trainers of TCI-S and it is mandatory for all staff to successfully complete this training, pass all written and verbal tests, and maintain their certification by attending regularly scheduled refreshers.

I am excited to work with you and your child and facilitate the help needed to reach your goals!
